Lauretti, Clark, and Vargas honored by ECFC

Trio of Pioneers Honored by the ECFC

A trio of Pioneers have been honored by the Eastern Collegiate Football Conference (ECFC) for their contributions to Alfred State's 30-28 victory over Anna Maria on Saturday. Ronnie Clark (Philadelphia/Indian River) was named the Rookie of the Week, John Lauretti (Seaford) was named the Defensive Player of the Week, and Bladimir Vargas (Washington Height/Law and Public) was named the Special Teams Player of the Week.

Clark rushed over 100-yards for the first time in his career. Playing quarterback in the wildcat formation for most of the game, Clark rushed 34 times for 209 yards and two scores. He scored on touchdown runs of 20 and 22 yards. On the season, Clark has rushed for 659 yards and six scores on 155 carries.

Lauretti had a monster defensive effort in his final home game of his career. He recorded 12 total tackles - nine solo - in the Pioneers victory. He also recorded two sacks, five tackles for a loss of 22 yards, and forced a fumble. On the year, Lauretti has 53 total tackles and five sacks.

Vargas was part of two huge plays for the Pioneers special teams. He forced a fumble on a punt return that immediately led to a Pioneer touchdown, and then later blocked an Anna Maria punt attempt, to help lead Alfred State to a thrilling 30-28 victory.

Cory Brandon of Husson was named the ECFC Offensive Player of the Week as he helped the Eagles clinch the ECFC title.

The Pioneers wrap up the 2018 season this weekend when they travel to Castleton for a 1 p.m. kickoff.
