Slow Start Dooms Pioneers

SUNY Canton raced out to an early lead and never looked back in a 86-44 victory over Alfred State on Saturday afternoon. The Roos used a 37-9 run to erase an early 9-8 deficit in the contest.

Sam Annoth led Canton with 18 points. Khalil Bratton added 12 points and Vonallen Pickett finished with 10. The Kangaroos shot 52.8% from the field from the field in the first half and hit five of their ten 3-point attempts. They finished the day shooting 50% and connected on nine 3-pointers.

Tommy Hutson (Brooklyn/Susan McKinney) was the lone Pioneer in double figures finishing with 10 points. Dan Gormley (Massapequa / St. Anthony's) came off the bench and had nine points. The Pioneers shot just 30.4% for the game and were outrebounded 49 to 23.

Canton, #8 in the latest USCAA poll, improves to 12-3 on the year while the Pioneers have now lost two in a row and are 5-15.

Alfred State returns to action on Tuesday when they host Davis College at 7:30 p.m. The Pioneers defeated the Falcons in their first meeting last Saturday.
