Lady Pioneers Can't Maintain Fast Start

Alfred State started fast but couldn't maintain the offensive output and fell 80-59 to Buffalo State in their 2015-16 home opener on Monday evening. The Bengals held a 64-41 advantage on the boards.

The Lady Pioneers jumped out to a 11-4 but the Bengals battled back to hold a 23-18 lead. The Bengals expanded that lead to 15 at the half and led by as many as 32. Alfred State held a 24-13 scoring advantage in the 4th quarter.

Breana Gleaton (Waldorf, MD) recorded a double-double with 13 points and 10 boards to lead the blue & gold. Kelly Kane (Wellsville) netted 11 points, Joselyn Johnson (Geneva) had eight points, and Chelsea Carl (Jasper Troupsburg) finished with seven.

After shooting over 61.5% from the field in the 1st quarter the Lady Pioners finished the night shooting 38.6%. The team was slowed down by 25 turnovers.

Britt Perry had a moster day to lead the way for Buffalo State. She finished with 21 points, 12 rebounds, five assists, and four steals. Jordan Yastremski had 12 points and 14 boards, Keyonte Edwards chipped in 12, and Caleh Mclean came off the bench and scored 10.

The Bengals shot 33% from the field but grabbed 30 offensive rebounds that led to 26 second chance points. Buff State was also solid from the line hitting 20 of 32 attempts.

The blue & gold are home again on Thursday when they host Houghton at 5:30 p.m.
