Lady Pioneers Roll Past Delhi

The Alfred State women's basketball team raced out to an early lead and never looked back as they defeated SUNY Delhi 82-44 on Saturday afternoon. The Lady Pioneers have now won three of their last four games.

The blue & gold jumped out to a 24-11 lead in the 1st quarter thanks to the hot shooting of Catherine Bialecki (Alfred Almond). Bialecki was 7 for 9 for 14 points in the quarter. Alfred State led 40-24 at half, 56-34 after three, and expanded their lead to as many as 38 in the 4th quarter.

Bialecki finished the day 13 for 23 for a game-high 26 points. She also grabbed 13 boards and had six blocks. Kimberly Levee (Dansville) added 13 points, Kelly Kane (Wellsville) finished with 12, and Steffanie Preston (Groton) chipped in 11. Minnie Robinson (Washington DC) had eight points and five assists while Breana Gleaton (Waldorf, MD) scored six and grabbed 13 boards.

The Lady Pioneers shot 37.9% from the field and held a 58 to 52 advantage on the boards. Alfred State turned the ball a season low of seven times in the game.

Sarafina Carter led Delhi with 10 points while Ebony Carter brought down 13 rebounds. The Broncos shot 22.6% from the field and were slowed down by 21 turnovers.

The Lady Pioneers are back at it next Saturday when they host SUNY Canton at 1 p.m.
