Pioneers Ready for NCWA Duals
The Alfred State wrestling team will travel to Liberty University this weekend to compete in the 2018 NCWA National Duals. The Pioneers are the #9 seed in the 16 team bracket.
Alfred State is in Pool A for the Friday portion of the event. They are paired with #1 Central Florida and will battle the Knights at 10 a.m. At 1:30 p.m. the Pioneers will take on #7 Springfield Tech and and 5 p.m. they will close out pool action vs. #15 Washington State. The top two teams in each of the four pools will advance to the quarterfinals on Saturday morning.
The blue & gold are led by George Van Valen (Ithaca) at 184 lbs. Van Valen is ranked #1 in the NCWA Rankings and is 20-0 on the season. This follows a 2016-17 season in which he was 39-7 and finished 2nd at the NCWA National Championships.
Pool B features #4 Emmanuel College, #6 Middle Tennessee, #12 Toledo, and #14 Maine.
Pool C features #3 Grand Valley State, #5 Apprentice, #11 Penn State Wrestling Club, and #13 Temple
Pool D features #2 Liberty, #8 UMBC, #10 Grays Harbor, and #16 RPI
In 2017, the Pioneers entered this tournament as the #9 seed and finished 6th overall.
