PIoneers Race to 3rd Place at Houghton

The Alfred State men's and women's cross country teams both raced to 3rd place finishes at the Highlander Invitational at Houghton College. 

Lindsey Thiel (Liverpool) had a strong day finishing 2nd overall in the 5k competition that featured 57 finishers. She crossed the finish line in 19:22.2. Emily Brigman (Lancaster) was 16th (21:28.9), Kelly Healy (Maple Hill) was 23rd (21:51.3), Cassandra Ryan (Gloversville) was 26th (22:30.3), and Brianna Byrnes (Jordan Elbridge) was 28th (22:30.3).

The Lady Pioneers scored 88 points in the meet and finished behind only Penn State Behrend (30) and Houghton (47). Roberts Wesleyan (107), Elmira (129), and Keuka (139) also competed and finished behind the blue & gold.

Jacob Hanss (East Rochester) led the men in the 8k race with a 5th place overall finish. He crossed the finish line in 26:57.0. Eric Hulbert (Mexico) was 9th (27:55.2), Kyle Glaub (West Seneca East) was 18th (28:40.5), Jesse Hallett (Honeoye) was 22nd (29:05.6), and Austin Demberg (Minisink Valley) was 24th (29:09.6). 73 runners completed the race.

Penn State Behrend won the men's competition with 27 followed by Houghton (61) and Alfred State (68). Roberts Wesleyan (70), Finger Lakes CC (152), Elmira (184), and Keuka (197) rounded out the team scoring.

The Pioneers are in action next weekend when they travel to Oberlin University for the Inter Regional Rumble. The first race is slated for 10:30 a.m.
