The Alfred State men's basketball team fell 93-39 to Hilbert as they opened up the 2013-14 season at Hilbert Tournament. The Hawks used a 29-2 run to end the 1st half to take control of the contest.
Tavon Moore (Syracuse/Bishop Grimes) led the Pioneers with nine points while Tommy Hutson (Brooklyn/Susan McKinney) and Rob Adams (Jasper Troupsburg) both chipped in eight. Alfred shot just 22.9% (11 for 48) from the field and was slowed by 31 turnovers.
Stark Trevor led Hilbert with 15 points while Jalen Smith came off the bench and finished with 13. All fourteen Hawks that appeared in the game scored. Hilbert shot 47.1% from the field and hit 10 three-pointers in the contest.
The Pioneers play St. Lawrence in the consolation game tomorrow at 1 p.m. while the Hawks battle Utica. Utica defeated SLU 82-81 in the other 1st round match-up.
