Pioneers Roll Past Dallas

The Alfred State lacrosse team rolled past the University of Dallas 17-1 on Saturday afternoon at SUNY Canton. The Pioneers advance to the championship game of the USCAA Classic on Sunday.

The contest was scoreless for almost ten minutes before Dominic Coon (Livonia) got the Pioneers offense going. Joe Johnson (Churchville) scored four minutes later and Alfred State held a 2-0 lead after the 1st quarter. Aaron Buck (Churchville) picked up the assists on both goals.

The blue & gold put the game out of reach with an eight-goal 2nd quarter. Johnson and Buck both scored three times while Coon and Ryan Colgan (Warwick Valley) scored once to make it 10-0 at the half.

Buck, Coon, and Colgan scored in the 3rd and the Pioneers led 13-1. Buck, Nicolas Covelli (Carmel), Nick Scalise (Washingtonville), and and Johnson scored in the 4th to cap the scoring.

Buck broke his own Alfred State NCAA era record with 15 points. He finished with five goals and 10 assists. Johnson had five goals and two assists and Coon recorded a hat trick.

In net, Ryan Amidon (Fayetteville Manlius) made 17 saves to earn the victory. The Pioneers outshot Dallas 59-32 in the contest.

Ryan Thie scored the lone goal of the contest for Dallas.

The Pioneers battle SUNY Canton in the championship game on Sunday. The Kangaroos defeated SUNY Delhi 19-14 in the other contest on Saturday. Opening face-off is slated for Noon.
