Lady Pioneers Win in Regular Season Finale

The Alfred State women's soccer team wrapped up the regular season with a 4-1 victory over Cazenovia. The Lady Pioneers are now 8-7-1 on the year and will await the announcement of the seeding for the USCAA Championships.

Haley Vosburg (Fillmore) got the Pioneers on the board early after getting a pass from Haley Russell (Keshequa) just 1:42 into the contest. Emily Graham tied it up in the 24th minute for the Wildcats after getting a long pass from Kaitlyn Lyon.

Russell scored in the 34th minute when she tipped a shot past the goal keeper after a centering pass from Allison Vargeson (Addison).

The game remained 2-1 until the final four minutes of the game. Michayla Salatel (Geneseo) scored twice to add insurance for the Lady Pioneers. Emily Wolf (Hornell) was credited with the assist on Salatel's goal in the 87th minute while Wolf and Vargeson picked up assists on her goal in the 89th minute.

The Lady Pioneers held a 26 to 8 shot advantage in the contest. Allison Danielak (Brockport) made six saves to earn the victory in net.

Prior to the game the coaching staff honored a trio of seniors playing in their final home game. Vargeson, Anna Rath (Medina), and Keri Teufel (Sachem East) are the first four-year players in the women's soccer program.

The USCAA Championship field will be announced at 5 p.m. on Tuesday. Alfred State has qualified for Nationals the last two years.
