Pioneers Scoot Past LaRoche

Allison VanScoter (Arkport) scored a pair of penalty kick goals late in the 2nd half as the Alfred State women's soccer team rallied for a 2-1 victory over LaRoche on Sunday afternoon. The blue & gold are now 7-2-2 on the year and are unbeaten in their last six contests.

After a scoreless 1st half, LaRoche opened up the scoring when Alondra Gonzalez scored after getting a pass from Kerri Phillis. The game remained 1-0 until the 79th minute when a foul was called in the box. VanScoter stepped up and scored her first of the season to tie the game up with 11:46 remaining.

With 6:29 remaining, Hannah Shadduck (Warren Center, PA) drew another foul in the box setting up another PK attempt for VanScoter. VanScoter delivered to give the Pioneers the lead. LaRoche put pressure on in the final moments of the game but could not get the equalizer.

Alfred State held a 17 to 11 shot advantage in the game. Madison Papaj (Holley) made five saves in net to improve to 6-2-2 on the year while Isabelle Orange made six saves for the Redhawks.

The Pioneers head to Elmira next Saturday (Oct. 13th) for a Noon rematch with the Soaring Eagles. The teams battled to a 0-0 tie in the season opener for both teams.
