Pioneers Strong at NYS Championships

The Alfred State cross country team had a strong showing at the NYS Championships hosted by Hamilton College. The men's team was 6th while the women were 8th.

The men's team was led by Keith Johnson (Webster Thomas). He finished the 8k course in 7th place (25:57.1). Jacob Hanss (East Rochester) was 25th (27:06.2), Eric Hulbert (Mexico) was 34th (27:21.6), and Jordan Rusek (Williamsville East) was 42nd (27:39.4). Kyle Glaub (West Seneca East) rounded out the top five with a 64th place finish (28:45.3). 

A total of 96 runner from nine schools competed in the race. Hamilton took the title with 16 points while Alfred State scored 147. The Pioneers finished ahead of Nazareth, Cobleskill, and Ithaca.

Lindsey Thiel (Liverpool) led the women with a 36th place finish in the 6k race. She crossed the finish line in 24:37.8. Kelly Healy (Maple Hill) was 61st (26:38.6), Cassandra Ryan (Gloversville) was 27:29.7), Brianna Brynes (Jordan Elbridge) was 77th (28:45.0), and Ashley Silva (West Genesee) was 80th (29:49.0).

Nazareth took home the women's crown with 38 points. The Lady Pioneers scored a 243 on the day in the race that featured 86 finishers.

Next up for the Pioneers is the USCAA Championship on November 6th in Temple Terrace, FL.
