Cross Country Heads to Florida for Nationals

The Alfred State cross country team will fly to Lakeland, FL on Wednesday to compete at the USCAA National Championships on Friday morning at 10 a.m. The 2015 Championships are hosted by Florida College.

Eight members of the men's team will compete on the 8k course led by three returning USCAA All-Americans.

  • Keith Johnson (Webster Thomas) has recorded the best finish for the Pioneers in each of the team's six meets. Johnson who finished 3rd at the 2014 Championships ran a season best 25:57 at the NYS Championships hosted at Hamilton.
  • Jordan Rusek (Williamsville East) finished 7th at the 2014 Championships after finishing 16th in 2013. Rusek is averaging a time of 28:33 on 8k courses this year.
  • Jacob Hanss (East Rochester) was 14th in the 2014 Championships after finishing 14th. He ran 26:57 in both the Houghton and Roberts Wesleyan Invitationals and is averaging 27:15 in 8k competition.

Eric Hulbert (Mexico) is averaging a time of 27:52 in 8k races this year, Kyle Glaub (West Seneca East) ran a season best 28:45 at the NYS Championships, and Kiernan Lauber (East Aurora) was the top freshmen runner averaging 30:18 in 8k courses.

Alexander Brown (Wellsville) ran a season best 29:36 in his last race at the NYS Championships while Austin Demberg (Minisink Valley) is averaging 30:55 in the Pioneers four 8k races.

Lindsey Thiel (Liverpool) is the lone Lady Pioneer that will compete at the Championships. She has been the top female finisher for Alfred State in all six races. Her average time in 6k races is 25:18 with her best time coming at the NYS Championships at Hamilton. Last year she finished 22nd in this meet.

The Alfred State men will compete for a top five finish with SUNY ESF, SUNY Delhi, Dine College, Berea, Illinois Tech, and the host Florida College.

The Pioneer men finished 3rd in the 2014 USCAA Championships and 4th in 2013. The Lady Pioneers were 10th in 2014.
