Game Notes:

  • The Pioneers and Yellowjackets meet for the 4th straight season. Last season Daniel Bronson threw for four scores and rushed for another as Rochester out to an early lead and never looked back. U of R held Alfred State to just 61 total offensive yards. John Lauretti had a big day for the Pioneer defense last year finishing with eight tackles.
  • Last week Alfred State opened up the home portion of their season with a 49-0 loss to Brockport. The offense moved the ball at times but could not put together a complete drive. Dashon Turner passed for 128 yards on the day with Josh Ashley leading the way with 61 yards on three catches. Steven Hubick led the defense with eight tackles while five other Pioneers had seven each.
  • Rochester lost their season opener last week 27-14 to Catholic. The Yellowjackets outgained Catholic but struggled to put points on the board. Daniel Bronson passed for 325 yards, rushed for 77 yards, and accounted for both touchdowns on the day. U of R was only 2 of 5 scoring once they got inside the red zone.Ricky Simcic led the defense with 13 tackles while Ricky Sparks made ten (nine solo).
  • Alfred State will look to put together more big plays in all facets of the game. The offense had only two plays over 20 yards last week while the defense did not create a turnover (Brockport did turn the ball over once on special teams). The Pioneer defense is still looking for their first interception of the season.
  • The Pioneers have been committed to the ground game in the first two games and will need to see more results. The blue & gold is averaging over 30 rushing attempts per game but is only avearaging 1.9 yards per carry.
  • Late in the game vs. Brockport, Alfred State opened up the passing game and had big plays to Dante Jordan and Josh Ashley. Look for more of the passing game each week as young quarterback Dashon Turner develops. Turner will also be on the lookout for Ricky Hagins, Khris Greggs, and Jason Gordon.
  • Rochester returns 32 letterwinners, 13 listed as starters, from their 2015 squad.
  • Rochester was 6 of 17 on 3rd downs last week and 1 of 4 on 4th downs. Bronson was sacked three times in the contest as well
  • Rochester defensive coordinator Jacob Lees is an Alfred State alum.
  • Brandon Davis and Steven Hubick continue to lead the Pioneer defense in tackles (20 & 19). The defense will look to slow down a fast moving Yellowjacket team that ran 86 plays last week.
