Pioneers Roll Past Barons

Eight different Pioneers found the back of the net as Alfred State rolled past Franciscan 21-7 on Sunday afternoon. The Pioneers have won two of their last three games and are 2-1 in AMCC play.

Teddy Alvarado (Hilton) scored three goals in the first 8:33 to get the Pioneers going. Joe Johnson (Churchville) scored a pair of goals in between a Barons goal to give the blue & gold a 5-1 lead after the 1st quarter.

Johnson scored three of the Pioneers five goals in the 2nd as the team built their lead to 10-4 at halftime. Joe Wittmeyer (Hamburg) and Landon Drumm (Tully) also scored.

Johnson and Alvarado both scored a pair of goals in the 3rd as Alfred increased the lead to seven, 14-7, after the 3rd quarter.

The Pioneers put the game ouf reach with three early goals, Alvarado, Quintin Himko (Johnson City), and Domnic Arresta (Southhampton) in the 4th. Ian Grana (Greece Odyssey) scored twice while AJ Soto (Churchville) and Alvarado found the back of th enet in the final 3:19.

Johnson finished the game with seven goals and four assists while Alvarado netted seven goals. Branden Dickson passed out three assists, Arresta had a goal and two assists, Grana scored twice, and Wittmeyer and Drumm both had a goal and an assist. Himko and Soto both scored once while Kyle Hoke (Tully) was credited with an assist.

In net Ryan Amidon (Fayetteville Manlius) made 12 saves to earn the vicgtory. Tanner Morrow (Grand Island) won 21 of 31 face-offs and led the team with 13 groundballs.

Dan McCartney had a hat trick for Franciscan while Paul Modzelewski finished with two goals and three assists.

The Pioneers outshot the Barons 49 to 34 and were 3 for 6 with the extra man.

The blue & gold are right back in action on Monday evening when they host Medaille in another AMCC contest. Opening face-off is slated for 6:30 p.m.
