Offense Continues to Click in Big Victory

Ten different Pioneers found the back of the net as Alfred State defeated Medaille 23-7 on Monday evening. The blue & gold have now three of their last four and are 3-1 in AMCC play.

The Pioneers raced out to a 7-0 lead in the 1st quarter and continued the pressure by scoring the first 11 goals in the contest. At half, the blue & gold led 14-4 and 18-6 at the end of three quarters.

Teddy Alvarado (Hilton) led the way with six goals and an assist while Joe Johnson (Churchville) had four goals and two assists. Tanner Morrow (Grand Island) had a monster game. He recorded his first hat trick, was 29 of 32 in the face-off circle, and picked up 24 ground balls.

Ian Grana (Greece Odyssey) had a hat trick and two goals, Nicolas Covelli (Carmel) had two goals and an assist, AJ Soto (Churchville) had a goal and two assists, Brandon Dickson (Churchville) had two assists, and quartet of Dominic Arresta (Southhampton), Landon Drumm (Tully), Stanley Tencza (Warwick), and Kyle Vandewater (Canandaigua) all scored once.

In net, Ryan Amidon (Fayetteville Manlius) made seven saves while Nate Gardner (Newark) made five saves in the final 11:25.

David Groves led the Mavs with four goals and an assist while Shawn Barbalato had a goal and an assist.

The blue & gold outshot Medaille 51 to 27 in the game and held a 43 to 25 advantage on ground balls.

The Pioneers were playing on back-to-back days. The team won a road contest at Franciscan on Sunday, 21-7.

Alfred State has a long break before hosting the USCAA Classic on April 22nd. The Pioneers battle SUNY Canton at 3 p.m. while SUNY Delhi and Dean College clash at 6 p.m.
