Hawks Double Up Pioneers

Hilbert doubled up Alfred State 12-6 in the Pioneers first ever Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Contest. Seven different Hawks scored in the victory.

Hilbert got on the board just 15 seconds into the game when Nathaniel Hyman scored of the opening faceoff victory. Joe Johnson (Churchville) netted the next two goals to give the Pioneers the lead. Tyle Nicoloff scored a pair and Austin Laine capped the 1st quarter scoring with 2:45 remaining.

Matthew Simon scored at 11:44 remaining before Johnson finished the hat trick two minutes later. Laine and Simon scored to push the Hawk lead to 7-3 before Teddy Alvarado (Hilton) netted his first with 3:56 remaining. David Santana scored with just four seconds left to give Hilbert a 8-4 lead at the break.

Johnson scored his 4th of the game to open up the scoring in the 2nd half but the Hawks scored the only other three goals in the period (Hyman, Simon, and Joshua Schindler) to grow their lead to 11-6.

Alvardo netted his 2nd of the game just over three minutes into the 4th but the Pioneers would not get any closer. Edward Mathias scored his first of the game with 4:02 left to cap the scoring.

Johnson finished with four goals while Alvarado had a pair of goals and assists. Aaron Buck (Churchville) and AJ Soto (Churchville) both passed out an assists while Ryan Amidon (Fayetteville Manlius) made 12 saves in net.

Nicoloff led the Hawks with five points (2 G, 3 A) while Hyman finished with four (2 g, 2 a). Simon scored twice while Laine found the back of the net twice. Adam Zawadzki made eight saves to earn the victory in net.

Hilbert held a 34 to 22 shot advantage in the game and forced the Pioneers into 35 turnovers. The Pioneers scored two goals on eight chances on the extra man while the Hawks were 0 for 8.

The Pioneers hit the road for the next four games. The road trip begins on Wednesday when they battle SUNY Delhi at 4 p.m.
