Pioneers Blank Wells

The Alfred State men's soccer team earned their first victory of 2014 with a 2-0 shutout over Wells College in their home opener.  The Pioneers are now 1-2 on the young season.

After a scoreless 1st half in which Wells had the better chances, the Pioneers got on the board at 49:54 when Antonio Fleming (Floral Park) kneed in a goal after getting a nice crossing pass from CJ Reynolds (East Rochester). The goal was Fleming's first career goal.

In the 58th minute Brandon Holley (Livonia) netted his first career goal after getting a rebound to make it 2-0.

The Express held a 14 to 7 over shot advantage in the contest but Alfred State held a 6 to 5 advantage in the shots on goal category.

Nickolas Weir (Harrisville) made five saves in net to record the shutout for the blue & gold.  The shutout was Weir's first in his 5th career start.

The Pioneers return to action on Wednesday when they travel to Medaille College for a 7 p.m. contest with the Mavericks.
