Second Half Goals Lift Spartans

D'Youville scored two second half goals to defeat Alfred State 3-2 on Saturday afternoon in Buffalo. The Pioneers held a 2-1 lead at half.

Brian Markel (Arkport) got the Pioneers on the board 2:30 into the game when he scored his second of the season.

The Spartans tied it up in the 12th minute on a goal by Daniel Tarbell. Alf Johann Egge was credited with the assist.

Kory Zimmer (Livonia) netted his first collegiate goal at 33:00 to give the Pioneers back the lead but the blue & gold would not get another one past Spartan goalie Brett Matthews.

Brandon Pauly tied it up in the 69th minute and Gerald West Jr. scored the game winner in the 80th minute.

Both teams finished with 15 shots on goal (D'Youville held a 11 to 8 shot on goal advantage). Nickolas Weir (Harrisville) made eight saves while Matthews made five.

The Pioneers head to the Pittsburgh, PA this week for contests vs. Penn State Beaver (Tuesday at 5 p.m.) and Penn State Greater Allegheny (Wednesday at 4 p.m.).
