Lady Pioneers Sweep Past Penn College

The Alfred State volleyball team defeated Penn College of Technology twice in a volleyball doubleheader on Saturday morning. The Pioneers won the opener 25-11, 25-11, 25-3 and the nightcap 25-13, 25-20, 25-6.

In the opener, Lera Braun (Waterloo) led the way with 25 assists, 10 service aces, and 10 digs. Braun served 13 straight consecutive points and registered six aces in a run in the third game.  Kay Pfleghardt (Tioga) finished with eight kills, Jess Ramsey (Tioga) had 10 digs, and Ashley Hulse (Hammondsport) and Brittany Hill (Corning West) each added five kills.

Pfleghardt registered 12 kills and seven digs in match #2 while Mishaya Tuttle (Campbell Savona) finished with nine kills.  Braun passed out 31 assists and Ramsey had a team high 15 digs.  The Lady Pioneers finished with a remarkable .434 hitting percentage.

Alfred State improves to 17-8 on the year with the pair of victories.  They are next scheduled to travel to the Houghton College Tournament next Friday and Saturday but they will anxiously await the announcement of the USCAA National Championship field on Tuesday.

The doubleheader also marked the last home contest for Hulse, Hill, Tuttle, Mallory Eberhardt (Lyons), and Carley Youngman (Churchville).
