Pioneers Finish 2nd at ACAA Tournament

SUNY Canton used a total team effort to defeat Alfred State 25-16, 25-19, 25-17 in the ACAA Tournament championship match. The Roos conclude the season with a 12-21 mark while the Pioneers finish the season with a 12-17 overall record.

The Kangaroos used a strong attack, precise passing, and solid defense to hold the lead throughout the match. They hit .322 (38 kills, nine errors, 90 attempts), served eight aces, and collected 34 digs.

Melissa McMaster led the team with 11 kills, Petyon Robinson passed out 32 assists, and Shea Norton was credited with nine kills and 11 digs. Jenna Roat serced four aces and had 10 digs on her way to being named the Tournament MVP. Marissa Ixtlahuac added seven kills (.467 hitting percentage) and was named to the All-Tournament team along with Robinson.

Bryanna Godfrey (Tioga) led the Pioneers with 10 kills and six assists. Kiara Perkins (Coudersport, PA) collecte eight kills, Sarah Raichlin (Binghamton/Chenango Valley) passed out 18 assists, and Madison Webster (Corning) led the way with 17 digs. The Pioneers hit just .083 on the day (24 kills, 17 errors, 84 attempts). Godfrey and Webster were named to the All-Tournament team.

Joining the Roos trio and Pioneers duo on the All-Tournament team were Vivian Kang from Mills and Makayla Mickam from Finlandia.

Alfred State had defeated Finlandia 3-0 while Canton defeated Mills 3-0 on Saturday to advance to the finals.

The Pioneers conclude the season by winning six of their final eight matches.
