Pioneer Men Win, Women 2nd at Alfred State Invitational

The men's track and field team won the Alfred State Invitational while the women finished 2nd on Friday afternoon. The meet featured athletes from six colleges and was the final home meet for longtime Pioneer head coach Gary Moore.

The Pioneer men won eight of the 18 events. 

  • John Adewumi (Brooklyn/Bordertown) won the 100 (11.61) and was 2nd in the triple jump (11.66 m). 
  • Kyle Jones (Wilson) won the 200 (23.38) and was 2nd in the 100 (11.84).
  • Keith Johnson (Webster Thomas) won the 5,000 (16:21.92).
  • Andrew Adams (Burnt Hills) won the 110 hurdles (19.24).
  • Trevor Stiles (Hornell) won the 400 hurdles (1:14.69).
  • Zach Curran (Williamson) won the pole vault (3.90 m).
  • Joseph Richardson (Geneva) won the triple jump (12.11 m) and was 2nd in the long jump (6.05 m).
  • The 4x100 relay team of Jones, Richardson, Adewumi, and Stiles won in 45.63 while the 4x400 relay was 2nd (3:41.02).

Other top performances for the men included:

  • Jacob Hanss (East Rochester) was 2nd in the 5,000 (16:29.18)
  • Steven Campbell (Binghamton) was 2nd in the hammer (41.14 m)
  • Spencer Stokes (Penfield) was 3rd in the high jump (1.70 m)
  • Timothy Coburn (Dansville) was 3rd in the shot put (12.22 m) and 4th in the discus (28.94 m).
  • Nate Robertson (Hamburg) was 4th in the 400 (54.08).
  • Jake Hawley (Binghamton/Susquehanna) was 4th in the high jump (1.60 m) and 5th in the javelin (37.95 m).
  • Jordan Rusek (Williamsville East) was 5th in the 1,500 (4:30.10).

Victoire Kothor (Rochester/Greece Odyssey) was a triple winner to lead the women's team. She won the shot put (12.52 m), the discus (32.36 m), and the hammer throw (38.60 m). Kothor was also 4th in the javelin (23.36 m)

Other top performances included:

  • Haley Anderson (Lyndonville) was 2nd in the shot put (9.57 m), 2nd in the hammer (35.06 m), and 3rd in the discus (30.76 m).
  • Domonique Shirley (Bronx/Harry Truman) was 2nd in the 400 hurdles (1:16.42).
  • Brianna Byrnes (Jordan Elbridge) was 2nd in the 800 (2:33.07).
  • Angel Bresnahan (Mexico) was 2nd in the long jump (4.62 m).
  • Mariah Smith (Hornell) was 3rd in the 800 (2:34.97) and 3rd in the 1,500 (5:21.51).
  • Holly Fiore (Niagara Falls) was 3rd in the high jump (1.25 m), 4th in the 200 (29.60) and 4th in the 100 hurdles (18.78).
  • Cassandra Ryan (Gloversville) was 4th in the 400 (1:07.11).
  • Kimberly Levee (Dansville) was 4th in the shot put (8.78 m), 4th in the discus (25.72 m).
  • Maddi McDonald (Lansing) was 5th in the 100 (14.16).
  • The 4x100 relay team (53.69) and the 4x400 relay team (4:32.90) both finished 2nd.

The Pioneer men scored 220 points on the day finishing ahead of Daemen (114), Bryant & Stratton (96), Houghton (68.5), Alfred University (56), and Roberts Wesleyan (9.5).

On the women's side, Daemen won the team title with 184 followed by Alfred State (169), Houghton (98), Roberts Wesleyan (60), Bryant & Stratton (35) and Alfred University (27).

The Pioneers are scheduled to head to Nazareth next Saturday.
