Strong Performance at DeSales for Cross Country

The Alfred State cross country team had a strong performance at the DeSales Invitational on Saturday. The men's team finished 3rd out of 16 teams while the women finished 9th out of 18 teams.

The Pioneer men scored 90 points on the day finishing only behind Dickinson (21) and DeSales (21). They finished ahead of St. Mary's (105), Stockton (162), Rowan College (183), Lycoming (199), FDU-Florham (240), Cumberland CC (253), Northampton CC (292), and Middlesex CC (296).

Keith Johnson (Webster Thomas) was the top Pioneer finishing the 8k course in 26:39.78. Johnson was the top freshmen in the race in 7th place. Jacob Hanss (East Rochester) was was 21st (28:05.35), Jordan Rusek (Williamsville East) was 25th (28:19.91), and James Westman (Fonda-Fultonville) was 33rd (28:59.78).

Lindsey Thiel (Liverpool) led the women with a 18th place finish. She crossed the finish line of the 6k course in 25:32.62. Kelly Healy (Maple Hill) was 56th (28:57.06) and Cassandra Ryan (Gloversville) was 71st (29:50.44).

Dickinson won the women's title as well with a score of 19. DeSales was 2nd (53), Widener took 3rd (93). The Lady Pioneers scored a 230.

The blue & gold are in action in two weeks at the NYSCTC Championships at St. John Fisher.
