Pioneers Run to 3rd Place Finish at USCAA Nationals

The Alfred State men's cross country team raced to a 3rd place finish at the 2014 USCAA Championships held at Drumlins Country Club in Syracuse, NY. The Pioneers scored 88 points and trailed only SUNY ESF (39) and Dine (AZ) College (58).

Keith Johnson (Webster Thomas) was the top freshmen finisher in the race. He crossed the 8k course in 27:10.7 to earn 3rd place. Jordan Rusek (Williamsville East) finished 7th (27:43.0) and Jacob Hanss (East Rochester) was 14th (28:16.1). All three ran to USCAA All-American honors.

James Westman (Fonda Fultonville) was 32nd (29:11.4) and Eric Hulbert (Mexico) was right behind in 34th (29:15.8) to round out the top five Pioneer finishers.

Tom Lattanzi (Kings Park) was 38th (29:26.0), Jonathan Pearl (Campbell Savona) was 39th (29:28.4), and Dominic Freudenvoll (Greece Arcadia) was 41st (29:33.1).

The USCAA National Championship race featured 21 scoring teams and 186 finishers.

Berea (KY) was 4th (105), Illinois Tech was 5th (179), Warren Wilson was 6th (186), Florida College was 7th (260), West Virginia Tech was 8th (287), Paul Smith's was 9th (296), and Canton was 10th (316).

The Pioneers finished 4th at the USCAA Championships in 2013.
