Thierman and Sowers Finish 6th at RIT Invitational

Ryan Thierman (Portville) and Matthew Sowers (Whitesboro) finished 6th at the RIT Invitational on Saturday afternoon as Alfred State wrapped up the 2014 portion of their schedule.

Theirman fell in his first match at 125 but rebounded with a 9-2 victory over Brandon Davis (Scranton) and a 3-0 win over Steven Lee (Oneonta) to advance to the consolation semifinals. He fell in the consolation semis and then fell in a tight 6-3 match in the 5th place match.

After a bye in the first round, Sowers pinned Andrew Cole (Oswego) in 23 seconds to advance to the semifinals He then lost his semis, lost a tight 7-3 match in the consolation semis, and in the 5th place match.

Konnor Kremer (Horseheads) was 2-2 at 165 with a major decision over Keonmin Hwang (Wesleyan) and a 4-2 win over Anton Libsch (Worcester Poly). Kevin Thayer (Unatego) was 1-2 at 157 with a 12-3 major decision over Isaac Arabdjis (RIT), Anthony Osman (Vestal) was 1-2 at heavyweight with a 3-2 decision over Eli Swain (Thiel), Juan Nunez (Middletown) was 1-2 at heavyweight with a 6-3 victory over Garet Schweitzer (Thiel), and Amari Brown (Maryvale) was 1-2 at 184.

Alfred State scored 21 points in the event that featured ten colleges.
