The Houghton College volleyball team defeated Alfred State 25-16, 25-19, 25-16 in the first day of the Keuka College tournament. The Highlanders improve to 3-0 on the year while the Pioneers suffer their first loss and are 4-1.
Kay Pfleghardt (Tioga) led the Pioneers with seven kills and four digs while Lera Braun (Waterloo) passed out 20 assists. Jessica Ramsey (Tioga) had nine digs. Alfred State was slowed by 12 service errors.
Hattie Burgher led Houghton with 12 kills while Laurel Wroblicky collected 24 digs.
The blue & gold are slated for two contests on day two of the Keuka Tournament. They take on Alfred University at 11 a.m. and then battle MCLA at 1 p.m.
