Pioneers Fall in Season Opener

Pioneers Fall in Season Opener

The Alfred State men's soccer team outshot Penn College 15 to 13 but the Wildcats were able to earn a 3-1 victory in the season opener for both teams.  Christian Dressler's goal in the 40th minute proved to be the game-winner.

Christopher Brennan netted the first goal of the game in the 33rd minute after getting a pass from Cody Sollenberger to give Penn College the led.  Less than four minutes later Kyle Jones (Wilson) tied it up.

Dressler scored the game-winner three minutes later when his shot snuck past the Pioneer goalkeeper and into the back of the net.  Tarik Laroche added an insurance goal in the 2nd half (60th minute) for the deciding margin.

Alfred State had quality chances to get more than the one goal but Malcolm Kane was solid in net making 10 saves.  Pioneer netkeeper Nickolas Weir (Harrisville) made five saves.

The Pioneers will be right back in action on Sunday morning when they take on Morton (IL) College at 10 a.m.
