Morton Downs Pioneers

Morton (IL) College scored three goals in the first 14 minutes en route to a 8-2 victory over Alfred State on Sunday afternoon. The Pioneers fall to 0-2 on the season.

Farai Tsingano (3rd minute), Juan Salago (8th minute), and Roberto Avila (13th minute) scored in the first 14 minutes to give the Panthers an early lead.

Alfred fought back with two goals off of solid corner kicks by Torey Jinks (Beavercreek, OH).  The first goal came on a header by Mitchell Porter (Alfred Almond) in the 15th minute after a Jinks corner.  The second came after Jink's corner kick hit the crossbar and bounced to Joseph Markel (Arkport) who found the back of the net (21st minute).

22 seconds later Morton's Alexis Monteon scored his first of three goals on the day to give the Panthers back their two-goal lead.  Igor Soares made it 5-2 at half with a goal in the 35th minute.

Neither team would scoreuntil the final eight minutes.  Monteon scored two goals and Orlando Torres netted a penalty kick in the final minutes.

Monteon finished the day with three goals and two assists.

Morton outshot Alfred 25 to 7 on the day.

The Pioneers hit the road for five straight starting with a 4 p.m. contest at Jamestown CC.
