Levey & Barrett Placed First In Their Respective Brackets

Adrian, MI- The Pioneers finished second out of 12 teams at the Adrian Invite. Zach Levey and Nick Barrett finished in first place in their respective brackets.

In the 133 bracket, Levey started his day with a fall in 1:58. He followed with another first period fall to advance to the semifinals. In the semifinal match, Levey notched a 10-6 decision win. He notched a takedown followed by a four-point near-fall to take a 7-0 lead. After an escape, Levey got another takedown before time expired in the first period. Later in the third, his opponent scored five points, but Levey held on to win and advance to the finals. In the first-place match, he tallied a takedown and a two point near-fall before getting a fall in 4:48.

In the heavyweight bracket, Barrett opened with a 7-1 decision win. After getting a penalty point in the second to take a 1-0 lead, Barrett started on the bottom in the third and got two points on a reversal. After an escape, Barrett notched a takedown and a riding time point for the win. He followed with a 15-0 tech fall to advance to the semifinals. In that match, he tallied a takedown followed by three four point near-falls for the win. Then in the semifinals, Barrett got the win in a sudden victory to advance to the final match. With the 1-1 tie going in the overtime period, Barrett notched a takedown in the first 12 seconds for the win. Then in the first-place match, Barrett got the 8-6 decision win. With a 4-4 tie going into the second period Barrett notched an escape to take the lead. Then in the third period, Barrett notched a takedown to secure the win.

Other notable finishes were Sean Malenfant (184 bracket) in second and Elijah Moshenek (141 bracket) in fourth.

Then in the freshman/ soph brackets, Ryan Farley finished third at 125, Dominick Vinci finish first in 141, Benjamin Lloyd finished second in 149, Benjamin Rivera placed third in 165, George Racz finished third in 174, Aaron Johnson finished second in 184, Brent Perry finished first in 197, and Roy Gamble finished in first at 285.
