Pioneers Have Good Showing At The Jamestown Open

Jamestown, NY- The Alfred State wrestling team tallied four place finishers at the Jamestown Open, while Blake Ilges took first first place in the 197 bracket.

Blake Ilges won the 197 bracket after going 3-0. After a first round bye, Ilges got a 20-9 major decision win over Simeon Hunte (Lackawanna College). Then in the semifinals, he notched a second-round fall over Eddie Farrell (Gannon). In the 1st place match, Ilges notched a 12-3 major decision win over Brett Wittmann (Unattached).

Nick Barrett earned third place in the 285 bracket. After losing in his first match, Barrett won four straight. The first win came by a 13-2 major decision over Jacob Beeman (Garrett). After a medical forfeit win, Barrett got a 4-2 decision win over Gavin Thompson (Pitt-Bradford). Barrett notched a 4-1 sudden victory over Joe Shoup (Ohio Wesleyan).

Aaron Johnson took home third in the 184 bracket. Johnson's day started with started with a first period fall over Jake LeClerc (Mercyhurst). After a lost in the round, Johnson tallied a 10-1 major decision over Desmon Perry (Ohio Wesleyan). Then in the third-place match, Johnson only needed 1:25 to get a fall over Landon Christie (Mercyhurst).

Zach Hibbard was the final place winner, he finished in fourth in the 149 bracket. In his first match, he tallied a 11-8 sudden victory over Nicholas Ewan (JCC). After a lost, Hibbard notched back-to-back falls before getting a tech fall win. Then in the third place match, Hibbard suffered another lost.
