Back on Track - Lady Spikers Take Two

Hours after their first matches of the season, the Alfred State women's volleyball team got back on track with victories over Wilkes 3-0 and Lycoming 3-1. With the victories the Lady Pioneers are now 14-2 on the year.

In the 25-14, 25-20, 25-20 victory over Wilkes, Jessica Padley (Buffalo/Sweet Home) and Bryanna Godfrey (Tioga) had big games. Padley led the team with 16 kills and added 11 digs while Godfrey had 15 kills and 11 digs. Madison Szpaicher (Ellicottville) passed out 36 assists and registered 12 digs and Madison Webster (Corning) led the team with 26 digs.

The Lady Pioneers hit .381 on the day and collected 71 digs.

Ally Paskas led Wilkes (9-14) with five kills while Juliet Betke finished with a team high 17 digs.

Godfrey led the way with 15 kills in the 25-19, 25-21, 17-25, 25-18 victory over the host Warriors from Lycoming. Godfrey also added 10 digs. Janae Hamilton (Ellicottville) chipped in 10 kills, Szpaicher passed out 29 assists, and Webster collected 15 digs. 

Alfred State hit .178 on the day but collected 11 aces led by Shaina Griffin's (Portville) four.

Kristine Jahn led Lycoming (12-13) with 13 kills, Catherine Burger passed out 24 assists, and Emily Hepner led the way with 16 digs.

At the end of the tournament, Godfrey was named to the All-Tournament team.

After 16 games on the road or at neutral sites, the Lady Pioneers open up the home portion of their season on Friday night. In day one of the Alfred Tournament, Alfred State battles Maine Fort Kent at 3 p.m. and Hilbert at 5 p.m. Alfred University and Morrisville will also be in action as both courts will be used for 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. games. The tournament moves to Alfred University on Saturday.
