Volleyball Season Ends in USCAA Quarters

The Alfred State volleyball team's season came to an end in the 2016 USCAA National Championship quarterfinals. The Pioneers fell 25-20, 27-25, 25-23 to St. Mary's of the Woods in quarters.

The Pioneers started the day with a 1-1 record but dropped both of their matches on Friday to complete pool play 1-3. Alfred State advanced to the quarters as the #4 seed in their pool and drew #1 St. Mary's of the Woods.

The blue & gold started the day vs. Illinois Tech and fell 25-21, 25-19. Janae Hamilton (Ellicottville) led the way nine kills on 19 attemps. Bryanna Godfrey (Tioga) had five kills and five digs, Madison Szpaicher (Ellicottville) had 19 assists, and Madison Webster (Corning) had six digs. Grace Hall (Ellicottville) chipped in five kills and Jessica Padley (Sweet Home) finished with four kills and five digs.

Taylor Burton led Illinois Tech with nine kills while Irena Grauzinis added five kills and 10 digs.

In their final pool play game, the Lady Pioneers fell 25-17 and 25-23 to Florida College. Godfrey and Hall both registered five kills while Szpaicher passed out 13 assists. Webster collected six digs. The Lady Pioneers hit only .104 in the contest.

Rachel Tharp led Florida with 11 kills while Jada Spano collected nine kills. Darian Hornsby recorded 10 digs.

Godfrey recorded 12 kills vs. SMWC and collected 12 digs. Padley recorded seven kills and 10 digs, Szpaicher passed out 25 assists and had 10 digs, and Hamilton recorded six kills and three blocks. Hall chipped in four kills and four blocks and Webster had 10 digs.

McKenzi Kumpf led SMWC with 13 kills and 15 digs, Mary Alvanos passed out 27 assists, and Autum Loughead had eight kills.

The Lady Pioneers wrap up the season with a 25-9 record. The team was making their 3rd straight trip to the USCAA Nationals.
