Fast Five: Alfred State to Host AMCC Cross Country Championships

Alfred State will play hosts to the AMCC Cross Country Championships on Saturday, October 30th. The men's race starts at 11 a.m. followed by the women's race at 12:15 p.m.

  • History
    • This is the first time Alfred State has hosted the AMCC cross country championships. Alfred State has hosted numerous NJCAA National Championship and Region III Championships in the past.
    • The 2020 AMCC Championship was held in March of 2021 with Penn State Behrend winning both the men's and women's titles. Alfred State's Gavin Bathgate is the reigning champion on the men's side.
  • The Course
    • The hills of Alfred will be on full display on the course. The men will race the 8k course around the upper fields of campus while the women will run a 6k. The course starts and finishes on the grass football field right behind the Orvis Activities Center. Racers will run around the baseball, softball, and practice soccer fields along with some of the hills above those fields.
    • Rain is forecasted to start on Friday afternoon and there is around a 50% chance all day Saturday of participation. Forecasts are predicting temperatures to be in the high 40s. 
  • The Competition
    • Seven of the AMCC institutions have cross country teams. Student-athletes from Alfred State, Hilbert, La Roche, Medaille, Mt. Aloysius, Penn State Behrend, and Pitt Greensburg will compete.

    • After the AMCC Championships, teams will have two weeks (11/13) to prepare for the NCAA Regionals. Alfred State will head to Geneseo to compete in the East regional. A course they previewed early at the Mike Woods Invitational.
    • The NCAA Division III National Championships are the November 20th in Louisville, KY
