Varela Named ECAC Player of the Month

Marissa Varela (Egg Harbor Twp, NJ) made the most of her first month of being a collegiate softball player. For her strong performance, she has been named the ECAC North Player of the Month.

Varela was consistent at the plate, hitting .579 over the course of 12 games (Pioneers were 6-6 during the month of March) and 38 at-bats while striking out only once. Showing power in her consistency, she hit five doubles and 2 triples, with one homer during the month. She made those hits count, knocking in 27 RBI and scoring 14 runs herself.

She had seven games in which she had multiple hits and multiple RBI. She was 3 for 5 with three doubles and 6 RBI in a victory over Knox in Florida and then was 3 for 5 with her first collegiate homer and 4 RBI in a game one victory at Valley Forge.

Erika Holowka of RPI was named the ECAC North Pitcher of the Month while Jessica Torch of RPI was named the ECAC North Rookie of the Month.
