Wrestling Ranked 9th in NCWA Preseason Rankings

The Alfred State wrestling team is ranked #9 in the NCWA DI Preseason Rankings. The Pioneers finished 13th overall last season at the NCWA Championships.

George Van Valen (Ithaca) starts the season ranked #1 in the 184 lb. weight class. He was 39-7 last season and finished 2nd at the 2017 NCWA Championships. His 2nd place finish is the best of any Alfred State wrestler at the NCWA Championships. This followed a sophomore season in which he finished 4th in the 184 lb. weight class.

Tristan Almeter (Elma/Iroquois) is ranked 4th in the 165 lb. weight class after finishing 21-14 last year. Brandyn Whitacre (Jamestown) is ranked 9th at 197 lbs. and was 17-16 with 10 pins last year.

Central Florida (54) is ranked 1st followed by Middle Tennessee (43), Grand Valley State (42), Emmanuel (35), and Springfield Tech (29). The Pioneers have 20 points in the poll and are tied with Brigham Young and Maine.

The 2017-18 season begins next Saturday when they compete in the Brockport Early Season Invitational.
