Moore to Retire Following 15-16 School Year
Alfred State cross country and track & field coach Gary Moore has announced his plans to retire following the 2015-16 school year. Moore, a 1976 Alfred State graduate, has been a fixture in the Pioneer athletic department for over 35 years.
During his tenure Moore has coached cross country, track & field, and swimming. He has also taught physical education, ran the intramural program, and served as the director of the Summer Sports Festival.
Athletic Director Dr. Kelly Higgins knows the impact Moore has had on the athletic department. "Gary is a true Pioneer, and a superb representative of all that is good in college sports. His outstanding record speaks for itself. Always an advocate of the student-athlete and Alfred State. After he spends that last day in the office next spring I know I will miss his day to day presence, as will the entire athletic department."
Moore has led the Pioneers to four NJCAA National Championships.

- 2011 NJCAA DIII Women's Cross Country Championship
The Pioneers won 47 NJCAA Region III Championships
- Five Region III Women's Cross Country Championships
- Five Region III Women's Outdoor Track & Field Championships
- Seven Region III Women's Indoor Track & Field Championships
- Seven Region III Men's Outdoor Track & Field Championships
- Ten Region III Men's Indoor Track & Field Championships
- Thirteen Region III Men's Cross Country Championships
Moore helped coordinate Alfred State hosting three NJCAA Cross Country Championships and three NJCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships. He also hosted numerous Region III Championships during his tenure. Moore also served numerous years of the NJCAA Cross Country/Track & Field Coaches Association.
Always a strong supporter of student athletes and Alfred State, Moore has served on numerous committees, served as a representative to United University Professions Union, and has been active within the Alfred State Alumni Association.
