Pioneer Men and Women Finish 4th at Fredonia

Both the Alfred State men's and women's cross country team finished 4th at the Fredonia Invitational on Saturday afternoon at Lake Erie State Park.

Keith Johnson (Webster Thomas) was top collegiate finisher. He finished the 5k course in 16:08.9 just in front of Kyle Collins from Fredonia (16:09.7). Eric Hulbert (Mexico) finished 16th in 17:12.8, Jacob Hanss (East Rochester) was 23rd (17:34.3), and Jordan Rusek (Williamsville East) was 33rd (18:24.8). Kiernan Lauber (East Aurora) rounded out the Pioneers top five with a 40th place finish (18:53.7).

Fredonia took the men's title with a score of 23 followed by Mercyhurst (58), Brockport (70), and Alfred State (85). D'Youville (161), Hilbert (195), and Medaille (200) rounded out the team scoring.

Lindsey Thiel (Liverpool) led the Lady Pioneers with a 22nd place finish. She crossed the finish line in 21:59.1. Kelly Healy (Maple Hill) was 36th (23.26.0) and Cassandra Ryan (Gloversville) was 44th (24.19.6).

With a score of 27, Fredonia took the women's title. Mercyhurst was 2nd (31), Brockport 3rd (75), Alfred State 4th (147), Medaille 5th (157), and D'Youville and Hilbert tied for 6th (173).

Next weekend, Alfred State will welcome back alums to compete in the annual alumni game. The race is slated for 11 a.m.
