Big 2nd Half Lifts Knights

Berkeley College used a strong 2nd half to earn a 80-60 victory over Alfred State on Saturday afternoon. The Knights remain undefeated on the season (17-0) while the Pioneers are now 7-10.

After a tight 1st half, the Knights held just a two-point lead, 39-37. The game remained close until the Knights finished the last 9:34 on a 25 to 6 run. Prior to the deciding run, the game featured eight ties and nine lead changes.

Tyrone Davis (Broolyn/Benjamin Banneker) led the Pioneers with 18 points and five assists while Sayquan Chambers (Queens/Richmond Hill) had a monster game with 17 points and 18 boards. Marquis Edwards (Queens/In-Tech Academy) came off the bench and added 10.

The Pioneers shot 41.8% from the field, hit only one of their 11 three-point attempts, and shot 59.1% from the foul line. The team was slowed down by 24 turnovers.

Massiah Merritt led the Knights with 23 points while Stephon Jennings finished with 18 points and 13 rebounds. Johnnie Green also finished in double-figures with 14. Berkeley shot 53.6% from the field, hit 40% of their three-point attempts, and hit 63.6% of their foul shots.

The Pioneers are back home on Tuesday for a 7:30 p.m. contest vs. Pitt-Bradford.
