Hot Shooting Lifts Mansfield

Mansfield shot 61% from the field as they defeated Alfred State 90-66 on Saturday afternoon. The Mounties were 36 for 59 from the field on the day.

The Pioneers hung with the Mountaineers for most of the 1st half and trailed by 10, 45-35, at the break. Alfred State was with eight, 55-47, with 16:05 remaining in the game but Mansfield used a 26 to 7 run over the next 10:30 to put the game out of reach.

Dante Jordan (New York/Law & Public Service) led four Pioneers in double figures with 15 points and seven rebounds. Justin Wallace (Mt. Vernon/Mt. St. Michael) and Juwan Toliver (Buffalo/McKinley) both finished with 11. Toliver added six boards and five assists. Marcus Rhett (Middletown) also finished in double-figures with 10.

The Pioneers shot 34.8% from the field, 28.6% from three, and was 16 for 26 from the foul line.

The duo of Matt Tamanosky and Malik Carter accounted for 50 of the Mansfield's 90 points. Tamanosky was 10 for 12 from the field and finished with 26 points and nine rebounds. Carter had 24 points and eight boards. The Mounties hit 7 of their 17 three-point attempts (41.2%) and 11 of 15 foul shots (73.3%).

The blue & gold now await the seeding for the 2017 ACAA Championships. The Pioneers will travel to the three-team tournament at Pine Manor College (Chestnut Hill, MA) next weekend. Seeding will be announced on Monday.
