Late Three-Pointer Lifts Canton

Adrian Williams hit a three-pointer with .5 seconds remaining to lift SUNY Canton to a 79-76 victory over Alfred State on Saturday afternoon. The Pioneers trailed by 12 with five minutes left in the game but rallied to tie it at 76-76 with 14 seconds left.

The blue & gold started fast and led by 11 on four occasions. Trailing 29-18 with 9:41 left in the half the Roos went on a run over the next six minutes to tie it up at 38-38. Canton went into half with the slight 43-40 lead.

The game remained close with Canton holding a 53-52 lead with 13:28 remaining before they went on a run and grabbed as big as a 14-point lead. With 5:04 remaining, Canton led 74-62 before the Pioneers went on a run capped by a lay-up by Tyrone Davis (Brooklyn/Benjamin Banneker) tied it up with 14 seconds remaining.

Williams hit his 4th three-pointer of the day with .5 seconds remaining and Romario Fletcher stole the Pioneers last second pass to seal the victory.

Sayquan Chambers (Queens/Richmond Hill) led the Pioneers with 25 points and 10 boards while Dante Jordan (New York/Law & Public Service) finished with 14. Marcus Rhett (Middletown) added 11, Justin Wallace (Mt. Vernon/Mt. St. Michael) had 10, and Davis chipped in six point and nine assists.

The blue & gold shot 44.6% from the field, hit 4 of 12 three-point attempts, and hit was 6 for 7 from the foul line.

Romario Fletcher led the Roos with 24 points on 9 for 13 shooting. Williams finished with 16 points while Sam Annorh and Rashad Richardson both had 13. Canton shot 56.6% rom the field, hit 10 of 19 from three, and connected on 9 of their 12 foul shots.

The Pioneers are back on the hardwood tomorrow afternoon when they battle SUNY Delhi at 4 p.m.
