Pioneers Lacrosse Tripped up in Opener

The Alfred State lacrosse team couldn't maintain offensive pressure as they fell 14-4 to SUNY Delhi in their 2014 season opener.  The Broncos scored five goals in both the 2nd and 3rd quarter to propel them to the victory.

Michael Maranga (Rockaway/St. Edmund) tied it up with 8:10 remaining in the 1st half on the extra man after getting a pass from John Garbowski (Mohegan Lake/Lakeland).  After that goal, the Broncos scored the next five goals to earn a 7-2 lead at half.

Neither team mustered much offense in the 4th quarter.  Delhi added two more goals before Phalen scored his second of the day in the final minute.

Jake Guy led Delhi with four goals while Paul Hylan finished with two goals and three assists. Robert Rohan made nine saves in net to earn the victory.

Phalen led the Pioneers with two goals while Mike Alessi (Liverpool) was credited with 18 saves.

The blue & gold begin a long road trip on Saturday when they travel to Baldwin Wallace.
