Pioneers Rally but Fall in Final Minutes

The Alfred State lacrosse team trailed for most of the contest but rallied to tie the game at 12-12 with 2:51 remaining but Tyler Fischetti scored with 1:20 remaining to lift Wells to a 13-12 victory.

The Express led 3-2 after the 1st quarter with Nate Spoor (Penn Yan) netting both of the Pioneers goals.  Wells scored the first four goals of the 2nd quarter before Andrew Delligati (Bedford Hills) and Michael Maranga (Rockaway) scored but the Express held a 8-4 halftime lead. Delligatti scored twice and John Garbowski (Mohegan Lake) scored as the Pioneers outscored Wells 3-1 in the 3rd and trailed 9-7.

In the 4th, Spoor scored twice in the first 2:08 to tie the game at 9-9.  Wells answered with two of their own goals to earn back their two goal advantage.  Keegan Phalen (East Aurora) scored with 6:12 remaining and Spoor tied the game at 11-11 with 5:26 remaining.

Alex Milliken scored with 4:32 remaining to make it 12-11 before Garbowski tied it up with 2:51 left.  With 1:20 remaining Fischetti took a pass from Milliken after a scramble in front of the net to score the game winner.

Spoor finished with five goals and has found the back of the net 13 times in the Pioneers last three games.  Delligati had a hat trick, Garbowski had two goals and an assist, and David Ford (Elmont) was credited with three assists.

Milliken led the Express with eight points (5 goals and 3 assists) while Connor Jansen had three goals and an assist.  Tyler Bischoff made 16 saves in net for Wells (3-1).

The Pioneers continue their current road trip on Thursday when they battle Cazenovia at 4 p.m.
