Pioneers Tripped up by Penn College in Opener

Penn College tripped up Alfred State 4-1 in the Pioneers first action of the 2014 season.  The Wildcats scored three unanswered goals to break a 1-1 tie.

Penn College got on the board 7:17 into the contest when they tallied on an own goal.  Brian Markel (Arkport) tied it up just over two minutes later when he found the top part of the net.

The Wildcats grabbed back the lead at 30:21 when Tarik LaRoche scored.  

Alfred State kept battling trying to get the equalizer but the Wildcats put the game out of reach with two goals in less than a minute.  Tristan Smith scored at 69:09 and Jared Daku scored at 70:05.

Penn College held a slight 21 to 18 shot advantage (11 to 8 shots on goal) in the contest.

The Pioneers are back on the road again on Thursday when they travel to Roberts Wesleyan for a 7 p.m. contest with the NCAA DII member.
