Pioneers Fall Short Against Pitt-Greensburg

Pittsburgh, PA - The Alfred State softball team drop today's doubleheader against AMCC opponent, Pitt-Greensburg 5-4 and 8-0. The Pios drop to 5-13 overall and 0-6 in AMCC action.

 

In game one, Breena Komarnisky got the start and loss while Olivia Kratts went 2-2 with two RBI. Madigan Harris also had a hit for the Pioneers and an RBI. 

 

Alfred State was the first on the board in the bottom of the fourth inning when Harris singled off a bunt that plated Caley Larson for the score. Kratts soon followed the lead, singling in McKinlee Harris and Abigail Marinelli for two runs on the board. The Bobcats responded with a run in the bottom of the fourth, but the Pioneers continued their 3-1 lead for the following inning. Pitt-Greensburg took advantage of two Pioneer errors to score two runs in the bottom of the sixth to tie the game before scoring the final score that would give them the win in the bottom of the seventh inning.  

 

In game two, Tiante Murray and Lauryn Engle were 1-2 at the plate as the lone hits for the Pioneers. 

The Bobcats took the momentum from game 1 and got off to an early 4-0 lead in the first inning before following it up with two more runs in the second. Alfred State would remain scoreless in the next three innings before Pitt-Greensburg scored the final two runs in the bottom of the fifth to end the game. Pitt-Greensburg is 10-8 and 4-0 in AMCC play. 

 

Alfred State look to respond on Tuesday against non-conference opponent, Houghton University, in a single game at 7:00pm.
