Pioneers Notches The Sweep Over La Roche On Senior Day

Alfred, NY- The Alfred State softball team swept the series against La Roche after taking game one 11-7, then won game two 10-2, in five innings.  The Pioneers move to 11-18 on the season.

 

In game one Breena Komarnisky picked up the win after pitching a complete 7.0 inning game only allowing four earned runs on nine hits, with a strikeout.  Lauryn Engle went 3-3 at the plate with a double, while Abigail Marinelli went 3-3 with one RBI. The Harris twins tallied two hits and two RBIs each.

 

The Pioneers got on the board first, as Audrey Farrell led off with a single towards third base. She would steal second and advance to third on a wild pitch. Then an RBI sacrifice fly from McKinlee Harris gave the Pios a 1-0 lead.

 

The Red Hawks took the lead in the second, and ASC answered with a run in the third to tie the game at 2-2. La Roche regained the lead after scoring three in the top of the fifth, but the Pioneers responded with seven in the bottom of the fifth to take the lead. Mc. Harris led off with a single to right field, then Caley Larsen and Engle got walked to load the bases. Madigan Harris then stepped in the box and notched a two RBI single to make it a 5-4 game. Then Abigail Marinelli came away with a bunt single and Engle would come home to tie the game on an error. Adriana DuVal followed with an RBI single up the middle to take the lead. After a change of pitchers, Komarnisky reloaded the bases with a single. Abby Beidel tallied an RBI on a groundout. The Pioneers would score another run on an error before Mc. Harris notched an RBI double down the left field line to take a 9-5 lead.

 

Later in the sixth, the Pioneers added two insurance runs to their lead. Engle led off with a single to right field, and Ma. Harris followed with a single down the left field line. Marinelli laid down a sacrifice bunt to advance the runners, then two batters later, Komarnisky notched a two RBI single to left field for the 11-5 lead. The Red Hawks got two runs across in the seventh, but the Pioneers came away with the win.

 

In game two, Hailee Smith picked up the win after pitching 5.0 innings only allowing one earned run on five hits, and two strikeouts. DuVal went 1-3 with five RBIs, her lone hit was an inside the park homerun. Farrell was 2-3 with two RBIs, a triple and two stolen bases.

 

The Pios came away with five runs in their first at-bat. Farrell led off with a single then stole both second and third. Mc. Harris reached on a passed ball and Farrell would score on an error for the 1-0 lead. Larsen and Engle got walked to load the bases. Then DuVal notched her inside the park homerun to take a 5-0 lead.

 

ASC would add three to their lead in the third. The Pioneers led off with back-to-back singles from Ma. Harris and Marinelli, both would advance on a wild pitch. Then Ma. Harris would score on an RBI groundout from DuVal. Abby Beidel followed with a single then Olivia Kratts got walked to load the bases. The Pios would score on an RBI sacrifice fly from Farrell, then an RBI single up the middle for the 8-0 lead.

The Red Hawks scored two in the top of the fifth, before Alfred scored two runs of their own to get the run rule victory.
