Pioneers Capture Homecoming Victory

The Alfred State Pioneers took a solid 3-1 win over conference opponent, La Roche, on Homecoming at Pioneer Stadium tonight.

After a slow start for both teams offensively, Alfred State had an opportunity to put the first score on the board after a La Roche handball in the box. Karlee Hargather capitalized for the Pioneers on the penalty kick, putting the first score on the board. Jena Schelble was the next to extend the lead for Alfred State, netting it off a McKinlee Harris assist. Going into half with a 2-0 lead, the Pioneers continued their hot streak at the 47:20 mark with a Kendall Artlip score, assisted by Hargather.
La Roche's lone goal was scored by Alexis Nudd off a free kick from Zaida Gonzalez Rosado, but the Pioneers put the game out of reach and solidified the Homecoming victory. Sierra Schofield tallied six saves on the day while Alfred State put five shots on goal. Schelble (5) and Hargather (3) led the Pioneers offense for total shots.

The Pioneers continue conference play on Wednesday, October 18th on the road at Wells College.
