Parsons Homers - Pioneers Tripped up by Bradford

The Alfred State softball team couldn't get the offense going as they fell to Pitt-Bradford in an AMCC doubleheader on Saturday. The Pioneers lost the opener 3-1 and the nightcap 9-1.

Brittany Fisher (Indianapolis, IN) and Jordan Uhing both were on in the circle in the opener. Krista Lovell (Addison) doubled to center with two outs in the 3rd to score Kailey Wonica (Staten Island/Moore Catholic) to open the scoring. Wonica had doubled one batter earlier.

The Panthers took advantage of an error to start the 6th and capitalized to score three runs. Daytona Wentzel delivered the game winning hit, a two-run single to right field, with two outs.

Wonica finished the opener 2 for 2. Fisher went six innings and allowed just five singles and three unearned runs. She didn't walk a batter and struck out four. Uhing allowed four hits and one run while striking out seven.

The Panthers led throughout the nightcap. They scored a single run in the 1st, three in the 3rd, and four in the 4th to build a 8-0 lead. Jade Parsons (Ovid/South Seneca) broke up the shutout by hitting a solo homer to center in the 5th but Bradford ended the contest with a single run in the bottom half of the inning.

Parsons finished 2 for 2 with the RBI to lead the Pioneer offense in game two.

The Pioneers are home on Tuesday when they host Medaille in a 3 p.m. AMCC doubleheader.
