Audrey Farrell with the big cut

Farrell Collects Four Hits vs. Medaille

Medaille used big 7th innings in both games as they were able to win a pair of AMCC contests over Alfred State on Tuesday. The Mavericks took the opener 10-4 and the nightcap 11-2.

In the opener, the Pioneers got the scoring started with three runs in the 1st. Brianna Dittman (Brooklyn/James Madison) drew a bases loaded walk and Emma Smithers (Waterloo) followed with a two-run single to left to give the blue & gold an early 3-0 lead.

Medaille scored four runs in the 4th and another in the 5th to grab the 5-3 lead. In the bottom of the 6th, the Pioneers cut the lead to one, 5-4, when Kailey Wonica (Staten Island/Moore Catholic) singled home Karlee Stone (Brockport). The Pioneers had a chance for more but stranded the bases loaded. The Mavericks answered in the 7th and put the game out of reach with five runs.

Smithers finished 2 for 4 with a pair of RBI, Wonica was 2 for 4 with a RBI, and Audrey Farrell (York/Notre Dame) was 2 for 4.

Medaille broke a scoreless game with a single run in the 3rd and two more runs in the 4th. Smithers collected a RBI single to left in the 4th and Jade Parsons (Ovid/South Seneca) followed with a bases loaded walk to cut the lead to 3-2. The Pioneers had the bases loaded but could not get any more. In the 6th, Alfred State had a chance to tie it when they put runners on 1st and 2nd with no outs but a nice play by Audra Marley turned an impressive double play to end the threat.

Just like in the first game of the doubleheader, the Mavericks were able to put the game out of reach with a big 7th inning. They collected seven runs on six hits to make it 11-2.

Dittman was 2 for 2 with a double while Farrell was 2 for 4 in the nightcap.

The Pioneers are back in action on Saturday when they host Mt. Aloysius for a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
