Mounties Defeat the Pioneers

Mt. Aloysius put together an all-around solid effort as they swept a doubleheader from Alfred State on Sunday afternoon. The Mounties withstood a late Pioneer rally in a 8-6 victory in the opener and then took the nightcap 10-0.

In the opener, Mt. Aloysius got on the board in the 1st and then scored three in the 2nd. Brianna Dittman (Brooklyn/James Madison) got the Pioneers on the board in the bottom of the 2nd with a grounder to short that was misplayed to drive in Brittany Fisher (Indianapolis, IN). The Mounties scored two more in the 4th and two more in the 6th and headed to the final frame with a 8-1 advantage.

The Pioneers didn't go easily as they rallied in the 7th. Audrey Farrell (York/Notre Dame) hit a RBI double to center, Angela Martone (Candor) doubled down the third base line to drive in a pair, and Fisher connected on two-RBI double to send the tying run to the plate. Madison Hillard was able to get the final out to preserve the victory.

Emma Smithers (Waterloo) was 2 for 3, Fisher was 2 for 4 with 2 RBI, and Kailey Wonica (Staten Island/Moore Catholic) was 2 for 4 to lead Alfred State. 

Mt. Aloysius used a six run 4th inning to put game two out of reach. They led 2-0 heading into the 4th and added two more insurance runs in the 5th.

Jade Parsons (Ovid/South Seneca) was 2 for 2 as she collected two of the three Pioneer hits in the game. 

The Pioneers are scheduled to host Penn State Behrend on Wednesday in another AMCC doubleheader starting at 3 p.m.
