Pioneer Wrestlers Finish 10th at Ithaca

The Alfred State wrestling team finished 10th at the two-day Ithaca Invitational this weekend. The Pioneers scored 22 points during the tournament.

The Pioneers had nine different wrestlers pick up a victory in the meet. The blue & gold had five wrestlers compete in the 165 lb. draw. Kevin Thayer (Unatego) defeated Dexter Puls (Ithaca), Timothy Rathbun pinned Nasir Williams (Centenary) in 5:27, Konnor Kremer (Horseheads) won 7-0 over Shaun Carroll (Springfield), Andrew Bikowsky (Madison) won 16-8 over William Reddy (Springfield), and Ryan Marriot (Fillmore) pinned Timothy Scalissi (Oswego) in 4:14.

Patrick DeFoe (Franklinville) defeated Dylan Houle (Springfield Tech) 6-5 at 157 lb., Josh Lord (Owego Free) pinned Cole Boone (Norwich) in 2:27 at 184 lbs., Matthew Sowers (Whitesboro) pinned Michael Anderson (Johnson & Wales) in 1:02 at 197 lbs., and Anthony Osman (Vestal) pinned Jonathan Cirino (SUNY Sullivan) in 1:11.

All nine of the Pioneers that picked up victories in the tournament finished 1-2.

Johnson & Wales won the overall title with 164.5 points. The tournament featured wrestlers from 11 schools.

Alfred State hosts Brockport on Wednesday in their first dual meet of the 2014-15 season. The first match is slated to begin at 7 p.m.
