Thierman Finishes 3rd at ECWC Championships

Ryan Thierman (Portville) finished 3rd in the 125 lb. weight class at the Empire Collegiate Wrestling Championships at Oneonta. The Pioneers finished 8th in the tournament.

Thierman lost his first match but rebounded with three straight wins to earn 3rd place. He defeated Paul Fields (Cortland) 3-2, pinned Mat Bradice (Cortland) in 6:31, and won 9-6 over Kyle Drick (Lycoming) in the 3rd place match.

Konnor Kremer (Horseheads finished 5th in the 165 lb. competition. After falling in his first match, Kremer pinned Andy Bikowsky in 4:47 and won a major decision over Mitchell Fisher (Oneonta) 13-4. He fell in the consolation semis but won the 5th place match 2-0 over Andrew Werther (Oneonta).

Codie Nichols (Unatego) went 2-2 on the day. He won 9-4 over Darren Breen (Brockport) in his first match. After falling in the quarterfinals, he bounced back with a 16-0 tech fall over Tim Rathbun. He fell in his next match to end his day.

149 lb Kevin Thayer (Unatego), Timothy Rathbun (Central Valley Academy), 184 lb Matthew Sowers (Whitesboro), and heavyweight Anthony Osman (Vestal) all recorded a victory in the tournament.

Ithaca won the ECWC Championship with 207 points. The ECWC is comprised of Ithaca, Brockport, Cortland, Oneonta, Lycoming, RIT, Oswego, and Alfred State.
